Development of a new 5-year Strategic Plan for Inala Primary Care
Status: September 2022 — June 2023
Client: Inala Primary Care
Background
Inala Primary Care is a unique not-for-profit General Practice that supports patients (including those who are culturally diverse and socio-economically disadvantaged) to manage their chronic conditions through access to a range of personalised health services.
Inala Primary Care engaged Beacon Strategies to provide external facilitation support to develop a new 5-year strategic plan.
Approach
Our approach to developing Inala Primary Care’s new organisational strategic plan comprised the phases below:
Phase 1: Looked internally — established project governance arrangements, reviewed achievement against the previous strategy, and heard from those within the organisation about strengths, opportunities, aspirations, and results.
Phase 2: Looked externally — undertook a scan of the strategic environment to explore where the organisation could be from a broader perspective.
Phase 3: Prepared participants — provided a briefing to IPC leadership to ensure they were informed and ready to think and plan strategically.
Phase 4: Formulated the plan — developed and facilitated a strategic planning workshop with IPC leadership to explore strategic direction aligned with the organisation’s identity.
Phase 5: Developed the product — drafted a new Strategic Plan document to articulate IPC’s strategic direction over the next 3-5 years and tested this product with key stakeholders.
Phase 6: Supported change — assisted IPC leadership to operationalise its new strategic plan through advice on operational planning processes and effective governance mechanisms.
Outcome
The outcome of the project was marked by the successful development of a comprehensive strategic plan. One key aspect of this outcome was the creation of a concise and informative 2-page strategic plan summary. It was designed to be accessible to both internal staff and external stakeholders, ensuring that everyone involved understood the direction and vision of the organisation.
Additionally, a long-form draft operational plan was prepared. This operational plan was the result of the collaborative efforts of staff, leaders and board members throughout the planning process. It encompassed the tangible ideas and contributions that had been gathered throughout the process, ensuring that all valuable insights were captured. The long-form draft operational plan served as a comprehensive roadmap, translating strategic objectives into actionable initiatives.
We support organisations to define their mission, develop strategies and plan for change. We facilitate strategic planning processes that enable organisational leaders to capture data and insight, and then steer their teams towards their objectives. Check out our recent projects and blogs here.
