What the project is
The purpose of the project is to lead the collaborative refinement of the Cairns and Hinterland SPCAP, resulting in a community and sector endorsed path forward for coordinated suicide prevention activities across the region.
Project objectives include:
Consolidate and understand the draft Cairns and Hinterland SPCAP, policy reports and current research to further inform the development of the plan.
Engage with a broad range of community members and professionals to identify issues, gaps and opportunities to strengthen localised responses to suicide.
Understand local suicide data and trends to target localised responses to meet the needs of people likely experiencing suicidal thoughts.
Review and document existing suicide prevention activities within the Cairns and Hinterland region to leverage existing activity and avoid duplication.
Collaborate intensively with key stakeholders within the Cairns and Hinterland region to reach an agreement and endorsement on a set of suicide prevention activities.
Support the establishment of sub-regional implementation teams to ensure an effective platform for steering local activity.
Produce a whole-of-region Cairns and Hinterland Suicide Prevention Community Action Plan to enable the consistent delivery of activities across the region.
