Regional Expansion: Foodbank Queensland
Status: Completed in November 2021
Client: Foodbank Queensland
Project Background
Foodbank is the largest hunger-relief charity in Australia. They are the pantry to the charity sector, linking surplus food and groceries to people in need. In 2020, they sourced 88 million meals for their charity partners, and are dedicated to fighting hunger by sourcing food for people in need.
In recent years, momentum has been building for Foodbank Queensland (QLD) to explore ways to establish a genuine reach across QLD to better meet the needs of Queenslanders outside of the South-East.
At the end of 2020, Foodbank engaged Beacon Strategies to support them to develop and implement a Regional Expansion Strategy to deliver on their mission of “fighting hunger by sourcing food for people in need” with genuine reach across the state.
Project Approach
This project was conducted via a four-step approach: discover, define, develop and deliver.
Discover - Collate information and insight from a range of perspectives to understand the current state of Foodbank Queensland’s regional expansion progress.
Define - Articulate a proposed strategic direction and roadmap for Foodbank Queensland’s regional expansion.
Develop - Work closely with key Foodbank Queensland personnel to prioritise actions for implementation and scope out high-level programs of work.
Deliver - Support key personnel with project planning and management of activities outlined within the strategy, establish an effective internal governance mechanism and provide support for strategy execution meetings.
Project Outcomes:
The final product delivered for this project was the regional expansion strategy. This report covered an overview of the strategy, including:
Why regional expansion
What a ‘good’ looks like
Strategy aim
How the strategy will be delivered
What will inform the strategy
The second part of the document explored the ‘regional expansion strategy pillars’. These pillars are aimed at establishing genuine reach for Foodbank across QLD.
