How do you move co-design from an aspiration to everyday practice? That was the challenge COORDINARE set out to address when it partnered with Beacon Strategies to develop a practical, organisation-wide co-design toolkit.

Designed specifically for the realities of a Primary Health Network, the toolkit helps staff understand when co-design is appropriate, how deeply it should be applied, and what conditions are needed for it to be successful. Combining evidence-based guidance with practical templates, readiness tools, facilitation resources and worked examples, the toolkit provides a repeatable framework that can be applied across commissioning, primary care development and system collaboration.

The result is a practical resource that strengthens organisational capability and supports more consistent, safe and meaningful engagement with communities, people with lived experience, providers and system partners.

Beacon Strategies partnered with the Ipswich Community Youth Service (ICYS) to co-design the ICYS PIVOT Program, a specialised alternative learning program based in Ipswich and funded by the Department of Education. The program has been developed to support young people aged 10–16 who are in contact with the youth justice system or have needs that cannot be accommodated in a conventional school setting. Co-design and consultation were key elements of the project to ensure that the program design process was informed by young people with lived experience and stakeholders who have relevant knowledge and expertise.

GCPHN engaged Beacon Strategies to undertake a review of the Community Suicide Prevention Service that would inform GCPHN’s ongoing approach to suicide prevention services in the region. 

Beacon Strategies was engaged by Brisbane North PHN to lead a co-design process to develop a social prescribing service model. The end product was a report and recommended service model that Brisbane North PHN would commission through a pilot project in Caboolture.

Beacon Strategies led a co-design process to design a service model and implementation guidelines for an Integrated Mental Health Hub for Central and Eastern Sydney Primary Health Network (CESPHN).

We are working alongside Healthy North Coast and a Lived Experience Panel to identify barriers and enablers to help-seeking, which will lead to the development of locally relevant tools and resources that meet identified mental health literacy needs, helping people to act early and promoting available supports.
