Leading a stakeholder engagement process for YFS

Status: Completed April 2025

Client: YFS

Background

Engaging with stakeholders is an important component for all not-for-profit organisations to nurture relationships and gain feedback on how they’re meeting the needs and expectations of the communities they work within. Stakeholder Engagement is one of the eight AICD Not for Profit Governance Principles.

YFS is an organisation that has been supporting people and communities in Logan and surrounding areas for 40 years. We were tasked by YFS to engage with a sample of their stakeholders to understand how the organisation is performing and partnering, and identify ways of working better together.

Approach

We designed an engagement approach together with key YFS staff that invited stakeholders to share their experiences of YFS, and identify strengths, challenges and future opportunities. We engaged with more than 25 stakeholder perspectives involving partner organisations, funders, local supporters, government agencies and peak bodies.

Outcome

We provided a report back to YFS management on the important themes emerging from our engagement with stakeholders, and highlighted some key implications for YFS to consider. Reflecting the importance of valuing stakeholder contributions and YFS’ commitment to continuous improvement, we also supported YFS to formally ‘close the loop’ with their networks to share what they’ve heard and how they’re aiming to respond: https://www.yfs.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/YFS-Stakeholder-Opinion-Survey_2025.pdf

How this project support our vision of a more impactful social purpose sector

This project supports our vision of a more impactful social purpose sector by supporting an organisation already doing great work in their local community and positively regarded, to hear feedback from stakeholders with the aim of continually exploring how they can strengthen their impact.
