Project management support for CPL - Choice, Passion, Life

Project completed: June 2024

Client: CPL (Choice Passion Life)

Background

Choice, Passion, Life (CPL), are a profit-for-purpose organisation providing vital support to more than 5,000 children and adults with disabilities in Queensland and Northern NSW.

Data from Tourism Research Australia’s National Visitor Survey in 2021 revealed that individuals with disability contributed $13.5 billion, or 17% of the total domestic day and overnight trip expenditure, and accounted for 46.1 million, or 19% of all domestic trips. However, many businesses are lagging in this space, unknowingly cutting themselves off from a whole consumer base by not providing adequate accessibility options.

CPL required a lead consultant to help them develop an Inclusion Toolkit specifically for Queensland-based tourism and event businesses which would help them improve their inclusivity for people with disabilities.

Beacon Strategies partnered with CPL to create the Anywhere Toolkit. Anywhere supports small businesses to identify areas for improvement in their accessibility through practical actionable steps. The free online toolkit of resources was shaped by small businesses and informed by people with disability and industry professionals. We understand the unique needs and requirements of accessible tourism.

Key steps

  • We worked alongside portfolio staff and the marketing and communications team to produce the toolkit

  • We provided project management, content creation and advisory support throughout the engagement

  • We co-located with the CPL team to provide support and develop the product collaboratively.

Outcomes

The end product was the Anywhere website, an accessibility-friendly website in an easy -to-read, user-first designed layout.

We helped with the creation of a number of resources for the website which came in a range of accessibility options for all audiences.

The Introduction to Disability section is designed to equip businesses with the foundational knowledge required to enhance disability access and inclusion. This introductory module serves as a gateway to two further modules.

Module 1 focuses on business and customers. https://anywhere.org.au/module/disability-access-and-inclusion-for-customers/

Module 2 delves into workplaces and employees. https://anywhere.org.au/module/access-and-inclusion-for-your-workplace/

We also supported CPL to design a maturity model and assessment tool to:

a) rapidly assess an organisation’s accessibility and inclusion practices, and;
b) link to the most useful content from the Anywhere toolkit so tourism businesses can access what they need.

Finally, we also created a number of customer journey maps as well as employee journey maps with several scenarios to outline what an inclusive and accessible employee journey looks like.
