Review of Bribie Island After-Hours Pilot project

Background

The Bribie Island After-Hours Pilot (BIAP) was initiated by Bribie Doctors Banksia Beach and ran for 20 months, concluding in June 2024.

The review of BIAP was necessary to assess its impact and viability in light of the upcoming state-funded satellite hospital on Bribie Island, set to open in mid-2024.

Beacon Strategies partnered with Brisbane North PHN to collect stakeholder feedback, capturing lessons learnt and to inform future after-hours services delivered to the Bribie Island community.

Approach

The review aimed to answer:

  • What outcomes the After-Hours Pilot lead to in regards to::

    • Improved access

    • delivery of quality of care

    • reduced service demand

  • What were the biggest strengths of the Bribie Island After Hours Pilot?

Outcomes

The final report was presented to Brisbane North PHN looking at:

  • Access

  • Quality of care

  • Reduced service demand

  • Strengths of the model

  • Model improvements

  • Financial sustainability

  • First-hand accounts from clients

Impact

This project aligned with Beacon Strategies mission to create a more impactful social purpose sector. This review provided Brisbane North PHN with critical insights for informed decision-making, strategic recommendations, and an assessment of financial sustainability, guiding future after-hours service models, especially with the upcoming state-funded satellite hospital.

For the Bribie Island community, the review ensured enhanced service quality, improved access, and a community-centric approach, with first-hand client accounts influencing future healthcare services to better meet local needs.
