Psychological Services Program Review: Gold Coast PHN

Status: Completed April 2021

Client: Gold Coast PHN

Background

The purpose of this project was to undertake a review of Gold Coast PHN’s Psychological Services Program (PSP) with the view to commission a new model that better provides short-term, structured psychological therapies to meet the needs of the community.

The PSP offers short term structured psychological therapies delivered by a range of providers contracted by the Gold Coast Primary Health Network. The program supports people who have a health care card and would benefit from receiving short term therapy for moderate mental health needs.

Approach

This project, the Gold Coast PHN’s Psychological Services Program Review, specifically aimed to:

  • analyse and understand the contextual environment of the service

  • capture the perspectives of key stakeholders relating to the ‘current state’ and desired ‘future state’ of the PSP

  • make recommendations for a re-commissioned service model

Outcome

The project team reviewed the current state of the PSP through program data and guideline analysis and engagement with key stakeholders, current providers, consumers and general practitioners.

Beacon Strategies provided the following deliverables to Gold Coast PHN to best equip them to commission a new model that better provides short-term, structured psychological therapies to meet the needs of the community:

  • 10 detailed service recommendations for a short-term psychological therapy program

  • 3 detailed model options

  • 6-step change management plan
