Inspired by an article published by Pro Bono News and always being curious about how organisations set themselves up for success, the team here at Beacon Strategies asked ourselves a couple of big questions about what we think the challenges and opportunities that NFPs might expect to face in 2021 will be.

Sarah Crisci has joined our team as an analyst who originally lived and studied in America before moving to Darwin and working as a consultant. Her passion for the health and social service sector stems from her travels in Thailand, where she completed volunteer work in youth and community development. Sarah has already proved to be a valuable asset to the team and we think it’s about time you learnt more about what she has to offer.

In Queensland, those populations considered to be socially disadvantaged are more likely to face a range of socioeconomic issues and conditions that affect their opportunities to thrive. We explore some of the data illustrating these relationships.

As part of the Cairns and Hinterland Suicide Prevention Community Action Plan (SP-CAP), the Beacon Strategies team are engaging local stakeholders throughout its development. To begin the local engagements, Elliot and Sarah made a trip to Cairns at the end of 2020 to meet with key stakeholders to develop this locally specific SP-CAP.

This year has taught our organisation many lessons, including how to successfully adapt to new environments, how to engage genuinely via Zoom (....) and how lucky we are to work with a range of amazing organisations who are driven by their social purpose and mission. So, as promised, we would like to acknowledge the wonderful projects, committed organisations and dedicated individuals we have had the opportunity to work with this year.

Fortunately for Beacon Strategies, at the tail end of 2020 we were able to take the time and invest resources into expanding our team once again. During this expansion we hired two new wonderful analysts who have now settled in and are working alongside the rest of the Beacon Team. One of these analysts is Nicole Hare.
