Background 

City of Moreton Bay engaged Beacon Strategies to support external stakeholder engagement as part of the development of its next Disability Access and Inclusion Plan. The work built on earlier engagement and focused on presenting, testing and refining draft priorities and actions with people with lived experience, community representatives, service providers and peak bodies. 

Approach 

Our role focused on designing and delivering an accessible engagement process that enabled diverse stakeholders to review, discuss and provide feedback on the draft plan. 

• Developed engagement plans, consultation tools and participant materials. 

• Recruited participants from lived experience, community organisations, disability peak bodies and service providers. 

• Facilitated interviews, focus groups and stakeholder discussions. 

• Applied disability-inclusive, trauma-informed and culturally safe engagement approaches. 

• Synthesised participant feedback into a summary findings report to support Council decision-making. 

Outcome 

The project provided City of Moreton Bay with a structured process for testing and refining its draft Disability Access and Inclusion Plan. The engagement brought together diverse stakeholder perspectives and supported Council to consider how the draft plan could be strengthened prior to finalisation. 

In addition to facilitating engagement activities, Beacon Strategies developed supporting consultation resources, managed accessibility requirements and prepared summary reporting to help inform the next stage of plan development.
