Development of a new Strategic Plan for Brook RED

Background

The purpose of the project was to deliver an insightful strategic planning process that resulted in the development of a purposeful and meaningful organisational strategic plan for Brook RED.

Brook RED has been operating in South Brisbane since 2000 and is an entirely Lived Experience governed, managed, and operated organisation. This means that everyone who works at Brook RED identifies as having a living-experience of recovery and that they use the unique perspectives and knowledge gained from this experience as the foundation for their work.

Approach

Our project team developed the Brook RED strategic plan through our tried and tested organisational strategic planning methodology:
Phase 1: Looked internally — established project governance arrangements, reviewed achievement against the previous strategy, and heard from those within the organisation about strengths, opportunities, aspirations, and results.
Phase 2: Looked externally — undertook a scan of the strategic environment to explore where the organisation could be from a broader perspective.
Phase 3: Prepared participants — provided a briefing to Brook RED leadership to ensure they were informed and ready to think and plan strategically.
Phase 4: Formulated the plan — developed and facilitated a strategic planning workshop with Brook RED leadership to explore strategic direction aligned to the organisation's identity.
Phase 5: Developed the product — drafted a new Strategic Plan document to articulate Brook RED's strategic direction over the next 3-5 years and tested this product with key stakeholders.
Phase 6: Supported change — assisted Brook RED leadership to operationalise its new strategic plan through advice on operational planning processes and effective governance mechanisms.

Outcomes

In collaboration with Brook RED leaders, we developed an organisational strategic plan that reflected the contributions of their community, team and partners.
