Developing a Mental Health Practice Framework: Wesley Mission Queensland
Status: Completed in January 2019
Client: Wesley Mission Queensland
Background
Wesley Mission Queensland (WMQ) engaged Beacon Strategies to develop an organisational Mental Health Practice Framework. The opportunity to deliver positive mental health outcomes across the organisation’s diverse range of services relies on the effective implementation of consistent practice across WMQ work units. The development of a practice framework, accompanying guidance and implementation of a structured change management process has the potential to deliver positive mental health outcomes to a broad range of clients.
Approach
The purpose of the project was to develop and support the implementation of an organisational Mental Health Practice Framework that guides practice relating to holistic mental health and wellbeing across the lifespan of all Wesley Mission Queensland (WMQ) clients and services.
The practice framework implementation approach was undertaken in partnership with WMQ stakeholders, allowing every opportunity to shape the development and implementation of the process. Beacon Strategies supported WMQ to understand the potential inclusions and exclusions of the practice framework, consulted with staff about current and future practice, developed the practice framework itself and supported the decision-making process regarding the next steps.
The project aimed to achieve the following objectives:
Desktop analysis of leading examples of successfully implemented frameworks to support the early stages of developing WMQ’s practice framework
Gain an understanding of organisational and strategic requirements for a mental health practice framework through a meaningful staff consultation
Work collaboratively with WMQ to develop a comprehensive mental health practice framework to support mental health wellbeing across the lifespan and all WMQ services
Work collaboratively with WMQ to develop an implementation road map to guide the implementation of the framework.
